The Santa Rosa Dance Theater returned to the Spreckels Performing Arts Center with four performances of “The Nutcracker,” December 16 through December 18. This is usually their traditional holiday classic. However, it had to be cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic. Last year they presented a less complex holiday performance as we emerged from the pandemic called “Dancing in the Snow.”
If you’ve never seen a performance of “The Nutcracker” in person, you should. It was wonderful. The theater company was excellent. Choreography was primarily done by Joshua Trader, Co-owner of the dance school with his wife Marit, with additional choreography by Gina Ness, Marit van der Wolde-Trader, and Stephanie Barclay. Trader also played a main role as Herr Drosselmeyer.
