SAN FRANCISCO, CA — As the weekend wraps up, we’ve rounded up all the stories you may have missed over Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Northern California’s top stories, Golden State residents should know that the state is about to enter “open season” in terms of vaccine eligibility. On Thursday, all Californians over the age of 16 will be able to make a vaccine appointment — but that doesn’t mean it will be easy to get one.

That major eligibility expansion hinged on the assumption that the state would see a huge upturn in vaccine supply this month; however, a plummeting supply of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine could hinder that plan.

Supplies of the single-dose vaccine will be extremely scarce due a 15 million dose batch that was ruined and an ongoing struggle with a contracted manufacturer in Baltimore.
