Redwood Empire Food Bank begins monthly distribution in Ukiah

The Santa Rosa-based Redwood Empire Food Bank has launched a new food distribution site in Ukiah at the Ukiah Unified School District warehouse parking lot, 130 Fircrest Drive, on the corner of South State Street near Grace Hudson Elementary School, the first Thursday of each month from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The first one in November saw a record number of attendees—400—and the next one is scheduled on Thursday, Dec.3, to be followed with distributions thereafter on the first Thursday of every month.

The Redwood Empire Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California from Sonoma County to the Oregon border, providing food and nourishment to over 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte and Lake counties since 1987.

Their mission is simple—to end hunger in the community—and last year they served one in six people in the five-county area through three strategic hunger initiatives.
